Modern Tramway

Modern Tramway was launched by the Light Railway Transport League (LRTL) in 1938, but until 1962 was only available to members .  Consequently older issues can be quite difficult to find.  Early issues used an A4 format but by 1949 a much smaller format was adopted.  From January 1962 the periodical was renamed Modern Tramway and Light Railway Review and produced jointly by Ian Allan and the LRTL.  In January 1974 the name was changed again to Modern Tramway and Rapid Transport Review then in January 1975 to Modern Tramway and Rapid Transport Review, in January 1977 to Modern Tramway and Light Rapid Transit and in April 1980 to Modern Tramway and Light Rail Transit.  Finally in January 1990 the large format abandoned some 40 years earlier was readopted and the name was changed to Light Rail and Modern Tramway.  Meanwhile the LRTL had become the Light Rail Transit Association (LRTA).

The following bound volumes are all from the collection of a single life-long tram enthusiast and are bound in either maroon or red cloth with gold lettering.  Early volumes contain collections of individual issues bound together, while later volumes consist of complete bound volumes for individual years.
